The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly walk to raise money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Join us on February 25, 2023 - team up, fundraise, walk, and gather for good... because it’s cold out there.
Eden Food for Change has been serving the people of western Mississauga who struggle with food insecurity, for over 33 years.
We currently provide food access to food insecure households from three food bank sites, including one food bank that provides 100% halal food for newcomers to Mississauga. Eden Food for Change also produces and provides all the hot meals for the meals-on-wheels program.
Our community engagement programs provide over 30 000 culturally appropriate meals to households in the city. Eden Food for Change operates a main distribution facility for its food banks near 403 and Winston Churchill Boulevard. This facility acts as our warehouse, commercial kitchen, and food bank. As with most food access facilities in the city, since COVID’s beginning, we have seen an unprecedented demand for our services with increased demand for all our programs. Our food banks have realized an uptake of over 81% in households needing our support.
Prior to COVID, we distributed 492 000 pounds of food for the year, In 2023, we are expecting to distribute 1.3 million pounds of food and distribute over 100 000 meals through our programs. In the same year, we are scheduled to begin a culinary training program for people with barriers to employment with the goal of graduating 70 cooks a year and providing wrap-around support for the participants to obtain full-time work in the culinary industries.
The funds raised in the CNOY event will help us achieve these goals, especially at this time of the year known historically for low levels of giving.
