About Open Arms Mission of Welland

Open Arms Mission is a volunteer driven organization, meeting the physical and spiritual needs of our community. We started as a small food bank in the late 1980’s and have grown to a multifaceted ministry with three divisions. Click on the links at the left to learn more about our programs.

Our Mission Centre at 22 Fifth Street houses our drop in centre, food and hygiene bank, Saturday hot lunches, many programs and administrative offices. At the Mission Centre, clients are treated respectfully and safe relationships are established with volunteers and staff. Some clients we see quite regularly and volunteers call them by name. We make it a purpose to get to know each client personally. Our weekday mornings are a quiet peaceful drop in center where coffee and donuts are served. We begin each day by reading God's Word and a devotional that is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Our Mission Centre pastor is available to talk or pray or to help connect people with specific resources. Our regular progams include Bible studies, women’s skills workshops, community kitchens, free professional haircuts, sewing classes and free clothes mending. We also have seasonal programs such as boots and backpacks for kids.

Our Redeemed Goods thrift store at 298 Crowland Avenue sells good quality clothing, household goods and furniture at very affordable prices. At Redeemed Goods, we train people in retail job skills and provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. We also are able to provide needed items to our Mission Centre clients in crisis through a voucher system. Donations are accepted at the store or at our warehouse.

Our Ministry Campus at 933 Forks Road West, Wainfleet houses our Redeemed Goods and food bank warehouses, our learning garden and Redeemed Lives men’s ministry. Donations for our food bank or household items, furniture or clothing can be dropped off at the Ministry Campus. Pick up is available for furniture. Call our warehouse cell at 905-735-8260 for more information. You can also shop directly from our Redeemed Goods warehouse Tuesday to Friday 10:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm. We have a large learning garden where we can grow fresh produce for our food bank and help our clients learn new skills. Our Redeemed Lives men’s ministry (also known as “The Barn”) is a gathering of men from all walks of life that meet together for encouragement in the Lord on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

We are continually growing and developing new programs to serve our community.
