About Renfrew County Safe Shelter for Youth

Family & Children’s Services of Renfrew County (FCSRC) is a not-for-profit, charitable multiservice agency whose mission and values are to protect and support the development and well being of children, youth and adults in its care through integrated services, prevention and social inclusion. FCSRC is taking the lead for the 2018 CNOY event in Renfrew County, in partnership with other agencies and organizations, like The Grind Pembroke, to assist homeless youth and adults.

Thanks to the generosity of community members in Renfrew County, Coldest Night of the Year 2017 was able to raise over $75,000 to help save the lives of at-risk youth and adults. Homelessness is hidden. Homeless is a silent destroyer of human lives. Homelessness exists in Renfrew County. Please help us stamp it out. Support our efforts on Saturday, February 24th, 2018, as we walk the streets of downtown Pembroke to gain a sense of what it might feel like to live outside during the Coldest Night of the Year!

Event Day Details

Save the date - WALK Day is February 24, 2018!

Renfrew County Safe Shelter for Youth, sponsored by Family & Children's Services of Renfrew County (FCSRC), with the support of The Grind Pembroke's Emergency Refuge, is taking the lead for the 2018 CNOY Renfrew County event to address the growing problem of youth and adult homelessness in Renfrew County. FCSRC homeless initiatives, with the support of The Grind Pembroke, offer places of safety, support and recovery to youth and adults struggling through poverty and homelessness in Ontario's largest county geographically.

Working in collaboration with local churches, businesses, schools and health, social agencies and community volunteers, our homeless initiatives provide a range of services for youth and adults facing homelessness right across Renfrew County.

With help from caring individuals and community organizations, we are able to:

• Provide a three bed shelter for homeless men and women (and frequently for older youth) at The Grind Pembroke's Emergency Refuge in downtown Pembroke, the service, administrative and commercial hub for Renfrew County;

• Connect homeless adults and those at risk of becoming homeless with the services and support they need for independent living;

• Obtain temporary shelter using a variety of other accommodations options for a rising number of homeless youth aged 16 to 21 years of age plus connect them to the assistance and support they need to lead healthy independent lives;

• Provide necessities like hot showers, towels, clothing, food vouchers,and hygiene products at The Grind's Emergency Refuge;

• Open The Grind Emergency Refuge's laundry and shower facilities for casual use, Monday through Friday, for those homeless persons who prefer not to stay in the emergency shelter;

• Encourage, give hope, show respect and support each homeless client.
