The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness... because it’s cold out there. Join us on February 28, 2026 - across the country, close to home!
Since opening the Women’s Emergency Shelter in 2009, the Northern Haven Support Society has been an essential resource for the Slave Lake community, spearheading initiatives to combat family violence and domestic abuse. Beyond the Emergency Shelter, support is also provided by the NHSS Community Services Team, assisting individuals in Slave Lake, and the surrounding areas, who are either struggling to leave an abusive relationship or have recently escaped family violence. The team at Northern Haven provides crucial assistance with safety planning, navigating the justice system, and accessing vital support services.
In January 2026, Northern Haven Support Society launched the NHSS’ Community Kitchen Share program, designed to address economic abuse and assist those in the area who are struggling financially and have been impacted by, or are at risk of, family violence.
This initiative builds on Northern Haven’s existing programming and includes an emergency food pantry, skill-building workshops, and financial literacy education.
Community Kitchen Share’s goal is to support its clients with needed resources while they work on building safe, independent lives for themselves and their families.
This February, we're walking to support Northern Haven's Community Kitchen Share!
