It's cold out there. The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk that raises money for charities serving hungry, homeless, and hurting people in our community. Walk with us on February 22, 2020!
The Okotoks Food Bank has been serving families in the Town and surrounding area since 1985. We're a primarily volunteer run organization governed by a Board of Directors and managed by a paid Executive Director. The mission of the Okotoks Food Bank Association is to provide emergency food assistance to local families in need. We treat all those who access our services with kindness, confidentiality and utmost dignity and respect. The mandate of the OFBA is well known in the local community, and our clients range from a variety of ages and diverse cultures. Every day we see how hunger affects men, women and children and how it can become an obstacle to success.
We provide fresh produce, eggs, margarine, frozen meat and vegetables, non-perishable food items, bread and milk cards. We also provide non-food and personal care items as available.
We are a registered charity under the Societies Act and provide tax receipts to donors.
Baby it's Cold Outside
"Giving those in need a hand up."
Did you know that on any given night there are approximately 50,000 Canadians that are homeless? This doesn't even include those individuals who have crashed on someone's couch or people who never find a bed for the night at a local shelter. On average, 350,000 Canadians a year at some point don't have a roof over their heads. Homelessness in Alberta and across the country continues to rise at an alarming rate. According to research from the Homeless Hub (2013), the statistic was 150,000 homeless people, which was an increase of 85,000 homeless people or 57%. Homelessness costs the Canadian economy 7 billion dollars annually, and this does not include smaller community shelters that offer support to individuals suffering from domestic violence.
Over Baby it’s Cold Outside has organized winter clothing drives, advertising and soliciting donations of winter clothes, meals and toiletries from Albertans across the province.
We're working on finalizing our Start location - check back soon!
Between 6:00 and 8:00 pm a warm, light meal will be served to all walkers and volunteers.
